Glyphosate is an herbicide that is used on the leaves of plants. It is the most widely-used chemical for this purpose, with about 9.4 million tons having been sprayed on fields to date.
It was first approved for use in the United States in 1974. It was initially produced by Monsanto and is best known as the active ingredient in the company’s Roundup herbicides. It will kill most plants since it is a non-selective herbicide, which prevents the plants from producing the important proteins that they need for plant growth. This chemical stops the shikimic acid pathway that is necessary for plants and some microorganisms.

First report about the use of glyphosate based Roundup resulting in the destruction of the environment in Scottish communities (April 2021)
The Council's Meeting relating to the motion of banning glyphosate spraying included.
Comments, pictures and references related to the spraying , cutting and killing the vegetation in Cumbernauld and surroundings, North Lanarkshire (August 2021)
The third video in the series 'A War on Weeds or A War on Life?' - dealing with the toxic spraying of glyphosate based Roundup weedkiller in the Scottish communities (North Lanarkshire) - all forms of life affected, particularly pets, kids. The Council's meeting in which the reintroduction of glyphosate spraying in North Lanarkshire is contained.
2019: In the governmental document ‘Pesticides code of practice for using plant protection products in Scotland - gov.scot’ , the importance o PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), the health surveillance procedures[1] for the workers dealing with the substances and the necessary care and the need to take measures to protect the members of the public[2], the pets, animals and insects[3] are all clearly stipulated.
Midlothian Council agreed to temporarily halt the use of glyphosate weed killers across its services while investigating concerns about its safety, as a result of the motion introduced by Councillor Cassidy. He told the other councillors: 'This is not only a cost to our insect life, this is a cost to human life'.
In Cumbernauld, for example,, this May-June spraying with the weed killer Roundup (Glyphosate based) from Monsanto however, didn’t appear to involve any kind of communication with the public. Vast amounts of this substance have been already sprayed in abundance in public spaces, children parks, in the very proximity of schools and building, at the roots of most of the trees in such areas much frequented by children and pets.
Cumbernauld-East Councillor Paddy Hogg created a motion concerning the need to give up the use of this weedkiller and Stepps, Chryston and Muirhead councilor Lynne Anderson put forward an amendment to the motion demanding officers to prepare an Environmental Impact Report on the current programme. Thus it was said (Cumbernauld News) that North Lanarkshire Council considers ending the use of ‘cancer-causing’ weed killer, but clearly it seems the population is still completely uninformed about the risks associates to the use of such substances especially in public spaces and, of course, prone to suffer from some potential health issues, same as the nature affected by them.
2020 August: MOTION FORBIDDING GLYPHOSATE SPRAYING IN NORTH LANARKSHIRE INTRODUCED BY PADDY HOGG & COLLEAGUES IS FINALLY ACCEPTED. HOWEVER, AS COULD BE EASILY OBSERVED BY RESIDENTS (SEE PICTURES [4]: OCT 2020 - MARCH 2021) SPRAYING AND EVEN DUMPING BIG AMOUNTS OF WEEDKILLER ON THE GRASS CONTINUED.
[1] “Health surveillance covers a wide range of activities including:
keeping health records
trained supervisors checking for signs of disease
examinations by qualified nurses or doctors
monitoring sick leave”
[2]“You should consider how exposure might affect members of the public. You should also consider whether you are applying pesticides near to homes, schools, nursing homes, hospitals, environmentally sensitive areas, organic farms and so on. It is good management to consider if you need to take any extra measures when applying pesticides near these premises. This may include spraying when people are out at work or when schools are closed, or leaving an untreated area next to the neighbouring property or area. If you need to make a COSHH assessment for the pesticide product you are using, you should include this factor within it.
Telling people before you apply a pesticide gives those people who might be affected information about the pesticide, but this is not an alternative to measures to control exposure. It is good practice for you to give information about the pesticide and the reason for using it to anyone who has concerns about pesticides. People often do not know that there is a positive approvals process and that precautions are taken to keep negative effects outside the target area as low as possible.”

In 2023, THE NORTH LANARKSHIRE COUNCIL is still spraying abundantly with Rondup in communities and along the streets, grass, bushes, trees and even (around) stones, banners and alleyways.
As documented by available pictures and videos, spraying has never stopped in the last 4 years since activists and a part of the local councillors atartes actions meant stop this practice.
From Dr. Rosemary Mason's: MONSANTO HAS COMMITTED SLOW POISONING OF THE PEOPLE OF WALES
The British Government refused to legislate on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides 21 October 2009:
DIRECTIVE 2009/128/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT and rejected the EU advice3 Article 11 Use of pesticides in specific areas EU Directive Advice:
Use of pesticides can be particularly dangerous in very sensitive areas such as Natura 2000 sites protected in accordance with Directives 79/409/EEC and 92/43/EEC.
In other places such as public parks and garden, sports and recreation grounds, school grounds and children’s playgrounds, and in the close vicinity of healthcare facilities, the risks from exposure to pesticides is high. In these areas, the use of pesticides should be minimized or prohibited.
When pesticides are used, appropriate risk management measures should be established and low-risk pesticides as well as biological control measures should be considered in the first place.
Government (Wales) Response:
We do not consider it necessary to prohibit the use of pesticides in public spaces or conservation areas or to impose new statutory controls on pesticide use in these areas. We believe that the UK can meet its obligations under the Directive through existing statutory and voluntary controls and develop additional voluntary measures.
In December 2010 Lord Henley, the Under-Secretary of State for Defra, explained why the UK weren’t going legislate. He said that the British had an “ideological dislike of legislation”, there were “dangers of over-legislating.”
He said that decisions by the UK government on the European Union Directive (2009/128/EC) were based on “robust scientific evidence”.
Why has ECP/CRD refused to write to Swansea City & County Council asking them to stop?
The British Government’s failure to legislate for the benefit of industry is how the citizens of Swansea come to have Dakar Pro, a professional form of Roundup, sprayed in 2016 (518 kg over 3,000 km of city pavements) and in March 2017 alone 169 kg with the proposal to spray 3 times in 2017: “over public parks and gardens, sports and recreation grounds, school grounds and children’s playgrounds, and in the close vicinity of healthcare facilities” where the EU directive says: the risks from exposure to pesticides is high
Why this spraying with glyphosate in public spaces and landscapes is even more important than in its agricultural use, can be derived from the following:
— Monsanto’s parent company announced it will remove glyphosate-based products from retail store shelves by 2023 to prevent future litigation claims related to the chemical ingredient.
Dr. Stephanie Seneff, last book:
”Toxic Legacy: How the Weedkiller Glyphosate is Destroying Our Health and the Environment”.
Dr Seneff says: “Glyphosate’s mechanism of toxicity is unique and diabolical. It is a slow killer, slowly robbing you of your good health over time, until you finally succumb to incapacitating or life-threatening disease.”
ROUNDUP SPRAYING/ DUMPING ON THE GRASS-VS CLEAN GRASS CUMBERNAULD, EDINBURGH (OCTOBER 2020 - MARCH 2021)
“In March 2016, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer published a study [PDF] noting that glyphosate – along with insecticides malathion and diazinon – "probably" cause cancer (2A). There is already a vast amount of independent science which clearly demonstrates the potential risk it poses to human health.
More, scientists are now admitting that it is impossible for them (or pesticide manufacturers) to truly predict the effects their products will have in real life. There is little to no data on what happens when pesticides interact with each other, for example — even though almost all conventionally grown crops will contain traces of more than one chemical. Across the board, safety testing on pesticides is woefully lacking.
“Dr. Anthony Samsel, a research scientistand consultant who says he has EPA documents in his possession which allegedly show that Monsanto was aware of research tying glyphosate, the primary chemical in the company's popular Roundup herbicide, to cancer since the 1970s.
In a recent interview, as reported by Health Impact News, Samsel – who has been studying the toxicity of glyphosate, the world's most prolific herbicide, which is used in the cultivation of GMO crops – notes that, in the past, much of his research linking glyphosate to illness have been dismissed. In conjunction with fellow researcher Dr. Stephanie Seneff, he has helped author the studies "Glyphosate, pathways to modern diseases III: Manganese, neurological diseases, and associated pathologies," "Glyphosate, pathways to modern diseases II: Celiac sprue and gluten intolerance" and "Glyphosate's Suppression of Cytochrome P450 Enzymes and Amino Acid Biosynthesis by the Gut Microbiome: Pathways to Modern Diseases."
“According to research scientist Stephanie Seneff, PhD, autism – which she calls “the most pressing disease in the world today” – could affect 50 percent of the children born in the United States by the year 2025. And, although many in the corporately-controlled scientific community roll their eyes at such a warning, Dr. Seneff believes that glyphosate has a lot to do with the problem.
To arrive at her chilling prediction, Dr. Seneff reports that she merely extended the exponential curve that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has employed in their research on rates of autism spectrum disorder over the past three decades. In 2014, the CDC released data on the prevalence of autism in the United States, reporting that the condition affects one in 68 children.
Dr. Seneff maintains that skyrocketing autism rates are linked with glyphosate, the toxic herbicide in Monsanto’s Roundup. In addition to autism, Dr. Seneff reports that glyphosate has been linked to a plethora of diseases and conditions, including ADHD, food allergies, asthma, leaky gut, IBD, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, heart disease and cancer. Glyphosate’s effect on human health, says Dr. Seneff, is nothing short of “devastating.”
“Another one of the lead scientists who helped conduct the World Health Organization (WHO) study on Monsanto's Roundup herbicide that determined the chemical to be "probably carcinogenic" has now gone on record saying that glyphosate is "definitely genotoxic."
Professor Christopher Portier, speaking at a recent scientific briefing on glyphosate in Westminster, London, told listeners that there's "no doubt" in his mind that glyphosate, the primary active ingredient in Roundup, causes genetic damage that can lead to cellular malfunction and cancer.
The event was put on by the U.K.-based Soil Association, which is pushing British authorities to implement a full ban on the use of glyphosate, which is commonly sprayed on genetically-modified (GM) crops and used as a pre-harvest ripening agent to help control weeds.”
Based on an assessment of various case-control studies of occupational exposure to glyphosate conducted in the U.S., Canada and Sweden, a research team noted increased risks for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, even after accounting for exposure to other pesticides. Mice exposed to glyphosate also showed higher incidences of renal tubule carcinoma, a rare form of kidney cancer.
Other types of cancer shown to develop as a result of glyphosate exposure included haemangiosarcoma (a type of cancer common in dogs), pancreatic islet-cell adenoma and skin tumors. The researchers also noted that aminomethylphosphoric acid (AMPA) -- which occurs when glyphosate is broken down by soil organisms -- is present in human blood as well, indicating absorption.
These and other critical observations suggest that glyphosate actively poisons the human body, a fact vehemently denied by Monsanto. Glyphosate and glyphosate formulations were also shown to induce DNA and chromosomal damage in mammals, including humans, as well as oxidative stress (which leads to chronic inflammation), and of course cell damage. The full paper can be viewed for free here: http://www.thelancet.com“
“A recent study conducted by Dr. Nancy Swanson and the President of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), Andre Leu, has reinforced what many have been convinced of all along: glyphosate, the main ingredient in Monsanto's herbicide Roundup, is lethal. Their correlation study determined that it's lethal even in small amounts, debunking the notion in which some people suggest that its levels are so low that it can't possibly damage health.
The study, titled "Genetically engineered crops, glyphosate and the deterioration of health in the United States of America," was published in the Journal of Organic Systems. First, United States government databases were reviewed to find GE crop data, disease epidemiological data and glyphosate application data. Then, the team conducted correlation analyses on 22 diseases in these data sets which revealed the disturbing discovery that the ingredient is indeed wreaking havoc on people's health.
Their findings state that "Glyphosate disrupts the endocrine system and the balance of gut bacteria, it damages DNA and is a driver of mutations that lead to cancer." They noted that glyphosate applications are linked to a long list of ailments and chronic diseases ranging from stroke, cancers of the thyroid, bladder, pancreas, kidney and liver to autism, end stage renal disease, multiple sclerosis and inflammatory bowel disease.
The study draws eye-opening parallels to the fact that there's been "a huge increase in the incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases" reported in the U.S. over the past two decades and that "During this same time period, there has been an exponential increase in the amount of glyphosate applied to food crops and in the percentage of GE food crops planted.”
A research team from King’s College London have uncovered a grim truth about the ever-popular Roundup herbicide: it causes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)”
According to an alarming study, published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology, glyphosate, even in ridiculously low concentrations, can accelerate the growth of human breast cancer cells.
The authors of the study, titled, "Glyphosate induces human breast cancer cells growth via estrogen receptor," compared the impact glyphosate had on hormone-dependent breast cancer T47D cells and hormone-independent breast cancer MDA-MB231 cells. The cells were exposed to low concentrations of glyphosate typically found in the environment.
Glyphosate acts like oestrogen to aid the propagation of beast cancer cells
The researchers found that glyphosate acts like oestrogen, a primary female sex hormone responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system, and uses the same pathways as the hormone to enhance the proliferation of human hormone-dependent breast cancer T47D cells.”
“A team of researchers from both Germany and Egypt, publishing their findings in the Journal of Environmental & Analytical Toxicology, discovered that animals fed GM feed had much higher levels of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto's Roundup herbicide, in their urine and organs than animals fed non-GM or organic feed.
As explained in the same study, glyphosate directly interferes with the body's P450 enzymes, which are responsible for modulating the synthesis of sex steroid hormones in the body. It is also believed that this inhibition results in the synergistic disruption of the biosynthesis of aromatic amino acids by gut bacteria, resulting in a variety of health conditions including gastrointestinal damage, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, infertility, dementia and cancer.”
Studies have also linked the chemical to a very long list of problems including heart disease, Celiac disease, inflammatory bowel syndrome, liver disease, kidney disease, Parkinson’s disease, birth defects, autism, ADHD, and Alzheimer’s. It is also harming the environment, affecting biodiversity and putting the entire ecosystem at risk.”
“Glyphosate is even more toxic in combination with the other chemicals found in Roundup
But glyphosate itself is not the only major cause for concern when it comes to the chemical's use. As it turns out, Roundup and many other commercial glyphosate formulas are also loaded with all sorts of so-called "inert" ingredients that are not indicated on the label. As highlighted in the glyphosate report, these inert ingredients typically carry with them their own toxicity, triggering many of the same harmful side effects as glyphosate in isolation.
5-Chloro-2-methyl 3(2H)-isothiazolone, for instance, is a chemical component used in Roundup that has been linked to causing both allergic reactions and genetic damage in laboratory tests. And 3-Iodo-2-propynyl butyl carbamate, a biocide often used in glyphosate formulas, has been shown to cause thyroid damage and growth abnormalities in test subjects. Other harmful glyphosate ingredients include petroleum distillates, polyoxyethylene alkylamine, and methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, which are linked to fertility problems, genetic damage, and other harm.”

“Dr. Robin Mesnage is a scientist at the acclaimed International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a division of the World Health Organization (WHO). He’s also a leading expert at King’s College of London’s Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics and recently declared glyphosate to be “definitely genotoxic,” meaning it causes cell mutations. A 2014 study in the journal Biomedical Research International found that in eight out of nine major pesticides tested, the commercial formula (to which people are actually exposed in the real world), was up to 1,000 times more toxic than the so-called active ingredient.
Concerning glyphosate’s cancer-causing potential, a panel of scientists at IARC – of which Dr. Mesnage is a member – unanimously declared glyphosate to be “probably carcinogenic” to humans back in 2015. The group’s assessment revealed multiple lines of evidence showing tumors of the kidney, pancreas, and other organs resulting from exposure to glyphosate. Epidemiological studies that were also taken into account linked glyphosate to DNA and chromosomal damage, another mechanism that leads to cancer formation.”
A WHO cancer research team considers the herbicide produced by Monsanto, Syngenta and BASF to be absolutely toxic and probably carcinogenic. More and more people and animals that are exposed to the substance become ill – and there are a large number of unexplained miscarriages and deformities in humans in South America.
So except 'bad genes'' (see: epigenetics), they cannot find any clear causes for the epidemics of auto-immune disease and cancer affecting our children? Why not discussing about EMF and glyphosate independent research?
Science proving the damage inflicted by Glyphosate affecting the gut, leading to cancer, chronic and auto-immune diseases, autism (see also Glyphosate and How to Detox It with Dr. Stephanie Seneff)
"Earlier this year, in a 29-page open letter to Fiona Godlee, editor-in-chief of the British Medical Journal, environmentalist Dr Rosemary Mason spent 11 pages documenting the spiralling rates of disease that she says (supported by numerous research studies cited) are largely the result of exposure to health-damaging agrochemicals, including glyphosate-based herbicides.
The amount of glyphosate-based herbicide sprayed by UK farmers on crops has gone from 226,762 kg in 1990 to 2,240,408 kg in 2016, a 10-fold increase. In her letter, Mason discussed links between multiple pesticide residues (including glyphosate) in food and steady increases in the number of cancers both in the UK as well as allergic diseases, chronic kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, obesity and many other conditions.
Agrochemicals are a major contributory factor for the spikes in these diseases and conditions. This is the real public health crisis affecting the UK. Each year, there are steady increases in the numbers of new cancers in the UK and increases in deaths from the same cancers, with treatments not making any difference to the numbers."

Robert F Kennedy Jr, one of the attorney’s fighting Bayer (which has bought Monsanto) in the US courts, has explained that for four decades Monsanto manoeuvred to conceal Roundup’s carcinogenicity by capturing regulatory agencies, corrupting public officials, bribing scientists and engaging in scientific fraud to delay its day of reckoning. He says that Monsanto also faces cascading scientific evidence linking glyphosate to a constellation of other injuries that have become prevalent since its introduction, including obesity, depression, Alzheimer’s, ADHD, autism, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, brain, breast and prostate cancer, miscarriage, birth defects and declining sperm counts. (Nov 2020)
A California jury ordered Bayer-owned Monsanto to pay more than $2 billion to a couple that sued on the grounds that their Glyphosate-based weed killer, RoundUp, caused cancer. On the same day as the ruling, Bayer admitted Monsanto could have kept lists on key figures, for and against Pesticides, in Europe. France has now opened a preliminary enquiry into the legality of the data collected by Bayer's subsidiary.
Bayer disputes that Roundup was the cause of the couples' cancer and that both had a long history of illness. The company plans to appeal the verdict. It's the third consecutive verdict against Bayer since its 63 billion dollar acquisition of Monsanto. Bayer is currently facing another 13,400 claims.

WIKIPEDIA: The March Against Monsanto is an international grassroots movement and protest against Monsanto corporation, a producer of genetically modified organism (GMOs) and Roundup, a glyphosate-based herbicide.[1] The movement was founded by Tami Canal in response to the failure of California Proposition 37, a ballot initiative which would have required labeling food products made from GMOs. Advocates support mandatory labeling laws for food made from GMOs.[2][3]
The initial march took place on May 25, 2013. The number of protesters who took part is uncertain; figures of "hundreds of thousands"[4] and the organizers' estimate of "two million"[5] were variously cited. Events took place in between 330[3] and 436[5] cities around the world, mostly in the United States.[3][6][7] Many protests occurred in Southern California, and some participants carried signs expressing support for mandatory labeling of GMOs that read "Label GMOs, It's Our Right to Know", and "Real Food 4 Real People".[6] Canal said that the movement would continue its "anti-GMO cause" beyond the initial event.[5] Further marches occurred in October 2013 and in May 2014 and 2015. The protests were reported by news outlets including ABC News,[8] the Associated Press,[5] The Washington Post,[9] The Los Angeles Times,[6] USA Today,[5] and CNN[10] (in the United States), and Russia Today[11] and The Guardian[1] (outside the United States).

"Kerri Rivera has had very good success with eliminating gut parasites using a highly diluted solution of chlorine dioxide called "MMS". Dr Seneff has explained that MMS also neutralizes glyphosate toxicity. Every city in the country treats municipal water supplies with chlorine so the FDA's hysteria over MMS enemas is baseless. They have even gone so far as to call it "deadly". Well, sure if you drank undiluted chlorine. Whatever happened to "it's the dose that makes the poison" that they always say when we point out the deadly chemicals in vaccines?
Kerri has helped many children recover from autism using a completely safe MMS protocol. But there are people who think autism is just "neurodiversity" and choose to ignore the serious medical issues. A few "neurodiversity" people complained to Facebook and YouTube about Kerri, saying that it's insulting to imply that autism could be "cured". - In a significant victory for consumer safety — and a devastating blow to Monsanto — California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) has declared that glyphosate weed killer is a known, cancer-causing carcinogen that will be added to the scope of Proposition 65.”
- Malta was the first European country to ban the use of this controversial weedkiller.
- Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena announced a ban on the import and use of glyphosate due to its nephrotoxicity (the herbicide has been linked to a quintuple increase in the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the nation and resulted in about 20,000 deaths in northern Sri Lanka).
- Brazil joins a growing list of countries that have banned the toxic chemical or restricted its use.
- In 2013, El Salvador banned the Roundup herbicide after independent studies linked the chemical to kidney disease, cancer and other illnesses.
- Belgium has banned the individual use of the chemical and voted against relicensing it in the EU last year. It was also one of six EU member countries to sign a letter asking the EU Commission to establish an exit plan for glyphosate. In addition, the city of Brussels has a “zero pesticides” policy, which means glyphosate is completely banned there.
- The Netherlands has also banned the use and sale of herbicides that contain glyphosate for noncommercial use throughout the country, after hearing the arguments of Party for Animals, an organization that focuses on animal rights issues.
- In Argentina, more than 400 cities and towns have passed measures that restrict the use of glyphosate. After the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded the chemical is “probably carcinogenic to humans,” about 30,000 doctors demanded the prohibition of glyphosate in their country since the chemical is associated with cancer, spontaneous abortions, birth defects, skin diseases, respiratory illness, and neurological disease.
- France and Germany are expected to join the list soon. Last November, French President Emmanuel Macron announced the country will ban glyphosate outright within the next three years. In January, the coalition government in Germany kicked off the process of banning glyphosate, and some retail stores in the country have already pulled Roundup and similar herbicides from their shelves.”

“We have a record of acting ahead of legislation where appropriate. We led the way in removing three pesticides in 2013 and neonicotinoids from our flowering plants in 2018.
“We offer alternatives to glyphosates and are currently undertaking a broader review of all our garden products,” a spokesman for B&Q said.
The announcements come after an American school groundskeeper, Dewayne Johnson, successfully sued the agrochemical giant Monsanto in a landmark case ( Jury orders Monsanto to pay California man $289mn in ‘probably carcinogenic’ Roundup trial ). Johnson says he developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after using Monsanto’s RoundUp and Ranger Pro weedkillers for years.
A California state jury awarded Johnson $289 million (£226m) in compensation on Friday after finding Monsanto had not adequately warned users of the herbicide’s risks. They also found company officials to have acted with “malice and oppression” in their selling of the product despite its risks being known. )”
In another trial held in San Francisco the jury was unanimous in their verdict that Monsanto Roundup weed-killer, based on glyphosate, had been responsible for Hardeman’s cancer. His attorneys stated,
“It is clear from Monsanto’s actions that it does not care whether Roundup causes cancer, focusing instead on manipulating public opinion and undermining anyone who raises genuine and legitimate concerns about Roundup.”
